The GIS laboratory was officially established in 1999, at the new venue of the Campus of Macchia Romana, but as early as in 1993, with the acquisition of the new associated GIS software equipped with different pieces of CAD software, the early studies of computerized planning were started.

Over the years, the Laboratory of Topography, Cartography and Photogrammetry, which originated the GIS Laboratory, has been equipped with a number of instruments like workstation, plotter, scanner, digitiser etc, for a highly specialized use in the application of methodologies of computerized geographic information management.

Research activities on the topics of the Scientific team AGR10 are carried out in the laboratory and in particular on the Information Systems and CAD applications for computerized geographic planning.

Another important sector of interest is the digital, technical and thematic  cartography for processing environment-related spatial information.

The participation in numerous research programmes has oriented the activity of the last years towards the analysis of structures and characteristics of livestock farms, agro-industrial factories, typical products, rural buildings, agro-forest environment, etc.
