A Short History and main objectives: The Herbarium Lucanum is a new Institution (extablished in 1988), its focus is on the Flora of Basilicata (and of southern Italy), as a reference for studies in a variety of fields, such as botanical, ecological, ethnobotanical, and pharmaceutical ones. HLUC also supports and participates in the teaching of the botanical courses offered at our University. At present HLUC holds more than 5,500 mounted specimens, more than 5,000 of those are also identified. Among them: Pteridophyta, Bryophyta, Gymnospermae, Angiospermae, Weeds and Medicinal Plants. The compilation of an electronic database has begun, and hopefully those data will become available in the near future.
Note added on November 2005: The Herbarium once again is not operative, its collections are not accessible and its activities postponed until a new location site will be ready. For contacts send an e-mail message to the address indicated above.
