Arrival and Departure
Travelling by plane: Bari Palese is the closest airport to Venosa. A bus will be waiting to pick up you just outside the airport. In order to organize this service we need to know your arrival and departure time. Venosa is 128 km far from Bari Palese and the trip takes about 1 hour and a half.
Travelling by train: Melfi is the closest railways station. If you arrive by train we need to know your arrival time to pick you at the station.
Travelling by car: From Naples to Venosa are 182 Km.
From Bari to Venosa are 128 Km.
From Potenza to Venosa are 61 Km.
From Matera to Venosa are 97 Km. You can consult the following web site to find Venosa from other locations:
Passports and visas: Entry visas and passport are not required for citizens of the most European countries. Residents from other countries may require entry visas. Please consult the Italian Embassy or Consulate of your Country. Climate: Venosa has a temperate climate. In September there is some risk of showers late in the afternoon, daily maximum temperature is about 25 °C and minimum is about 15 °C. Telephone and postal facilities: Pay and card phones are available both from local and long distance calls in the post office. The general post office it is open from 8 am to 6 pm and it is located in via Battaglini. Banking facilities: The official currency in Italy is the EURO (). Most banks are open from 8 am to 1.30 pm and from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm. You can exchange money or travellers cheques normally a commission is charged. While cash is the easier way to pay, credit cards are safer and many establishments accept VISA, American Express, Diners Club, MaterCard, and Eurocard. Shopping hours: The usual shopping hours in Venosa are from 9.00 am to 1 pm and from 5.00 to 9.00 pm Local transportation: Car access is not difficult. We do not recommended to use the car in the historical centre of Venosa, but to leave it in car parks that are around the center. Venosa have a well-developed bus network of municipal transport. In the case you prefer taxis, you can book by phone the taxi services by Manieri Enrico (++39 (0)972 32012). Insurance and disclaimers: The organizing Committee accepts no liability for injuries/losses of whatever nature incurred by participants and/or accompanying persons, nor for loss and damage to their luggage and/or personal belongings. Delegates are advised to take out their own travel and health insurance policies.
Other information: Accompanying programme . For accompanying persons will be organized the a pre- and post-symposium tour and 3 one-day excursion. The preliminary cost for at least 30 people ranged between 40,00 and 25,00 (all included).Pre-symposium tour (Wednesday 14 September): Pietrapertosa and CastelMezzano. Thursday 15 September: The cathedral of Acerenza, The castle and the museum of Lagopesole, The castle and cathedral of Melfi, and the church of Ripacandida. Friday 16 September: Venosa from the Home erectus in Notarchirico site to the modern age. (Social Dinner). Saturday 18 Septemeber: Matera, the UNESCO word heritage city. Post-symposium tour (Sunday 19 September): The ancient Greek museum and archaeological area of Metaponto and Policoro (Heraclea). Registration: Participant registration fees includes: Participation in all sessions or parallel workshops, Coffee breaks, bus transfer from and to workshop. Relevant scientific information will be send separately to all intervenient scientists.Excursions: Thursday 15 September afternoon: The vineyards and the wineries of Barile and Rionero in Vulture. Friday 16 September afternoon: The vineyards and the wineries of Venosa and Maschito. (Social Dinner). Saturday 18 September (one day excursion): Metaponto, table grape and wine grape production. Matera in the afternoon, the UNESCO word heritage city. The preliminary cost for at least 30 people is about 30.00 (lunch included).
