Practical information - ISSUE OF STAY PERMIT

If you are a citizen of a non-EU member-country, within eight days of your arrival in Italy you must go to the Questura (Police Headquarters) to obtain a stay permit (temporary residence card).

When applying to the Questura of Potenza or Matera, Foreigners Office, you must present the following documents:

C      a valid passport or equivalent document with visa for study – if provided for by law and issued by Diplomatic and Consular Italian Representations in the Residence Country - and copies;

C      a certificate of enrolment at the University (given to you at your arrival in Potenza by the International Relations Office of the University of Basilicata);

C      insurance policy, valid in Italy, for health assistance;

C      four passport-sized photographs;

C      one revenue stamp (marca da bollo) for 14,62 euros. 

If you are a citizen of a EU member-country and you are staying in Italy for more than 90 days consequently, you must go to the Questura (Police Headquarters) to obtain a “carta di soggiorno” (residence permit).

 Documents required:

C      an identity document  (identity card or passport);

C      a certificate of enrolment at the University (given to you at your arrival in Potenza by the International Relations Office of the University of Basilicata);

C      four passport-sized photographs;

C      one revenue stamp (marca da bollo) for 14,62 euros;

C      copy of the insurance coverage (health card - Tessera Sanitaria TEAM – in substitution of the E111/E128 - or  modello E111).

The “carta di soggiorno” is valid in the whole Italian territory and has a 5-year-validity.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Not later than eight days from the date of arrival at Potenza, you must report to the local Police Station  in Potenza - Ufficio Stranieri - Viale Marconi, tel. 09 71 33 44 90, or in Matera, Via Tasso tel. 0835 33 42 22, to register their presence in Italy.
