Sergio G. Longhitano - Scientific Interests

My scientific current interests include:

  • Analyses of semi-regional to reservoir-scale analogues for recent oil discoveries from the Meso-Cenozoic central Mediterranean areas.

  • Palaeogeographic significance, depositional processes and allocyclic influences of mixed (bioclastic/siliciclastic) depositional systems punctuating Plio-Pleistocene successions of southern Apennines (current study areas: Basilicata, Calabria and eastern Sicily).

  • Tidally-influenced depositional environments in micro-tidal oceanographic settings: examples from Plio-Pleistocene successions of Basilicata, Calabria and Sicily.

  • Development of Gilbert-type deltaic sequences in tectonically-active Apenninic basin margins, under the influences of high-frequency sea-level changes (current study area: the Potenza Basin, central southern Apennines).

  • Relationships between coastal, short-term up-lift rates and beach types along the Ionian shoreline of eastern Sicily.

  • Searching for inland sediment sources supporting coastal beach nourishments: problems, limitations and advantages (the example of the Ionian coast of Basilicata).

  • Distinguishing tsunami from storm coastal deposits: some example from the Ionian southern coast of Sicily.
